rothers Bob and Steve Negen loved flying kites, so in 1981 they decided to try making a living selling them. They opened a small kite shop in Mackinaw City, Michigan, and came up with the brilliantly imaginative name "Mackinaw Kite Co."

Although young and inexperienced (Steve wasn't even 20 yet), their enthusiasm and passion for their product sold enough kites to pay the rent. Wanting also to pay their salaries, the two added related products like windsocks to their already colorful selection of single line kites and stunt kites.

To find our Grand Haven store, take I-96 west to exit 9. Merge onto M104 and take this road through Spring Lake. Take the left lane up the ramp and cross the drawbridge. You'll now be on US 31, or Beacon Blvd. Move to the middle lane. Go through three lights; the third will be Washington St. Go one more block to Franklin St. and turn right. About six or seven blocks down, between Second and First Streets, you'll see our store on the right, with free parking behind it.
